Zakat on Business Goods Calculator
For a shop or a business: goods held for resale at today's selling value, business cash and receivables added, the business's debts taken off — then a nisab check and the 2.5% Zakat.
Dar al-Ifta, Ramadan 1447 / 2026 — on the silver nisab
Total business assets
Rs 1,800,000
Net wealth
Rs 1,500,000
Zakat (2.5%)
Rs 37,500
The business's net wealth is above the nisab (Rs 504,105), so Zakat is due: 2.5% of the net amount.
What counts in a business
Counts: all stock held for resale (at selling value), business cash and bank balances, and amounts owed by customers that you expect to recover. Does not count: the shop or office premises, fittings and furniture, machinery and vehicles — those are the tools of the trade. Then supplier credit and business debts come off. For the full rules and the nisab explained, read our nisab guide, or bring everything, personal wealth included, into the main Zakat calculator.
Frequently asked questions
Do I value my stock at cost price or selling price?+
At its current selling value — what the goods would fetch if sold today. That is the basis used throughout this site: trade goods are valued at their current selling price on your Zakat date, not at what you paid for them.
Is Zakat due on my shop, its fittings or my delivery vehicle?+
No. The building you trade from, shelves and fittings, machinery and vehicles are the tools of your trade, not trade goods — they are not zakatable, however valuable. Only what you hold to sell, plus business cash and recoverable receivables, counts.
Give me a worked example for a small shop.+
Stock worth Rs 1,500,000 at selling prices, Rs 100,000 of business cash, Rs 200,000 owed by customers who are expected to pay, and Rs 300,000 owed to suppliers. Total assets Rs 1,800,000, minus the Rs 300,000 owed, leaves Rs 1,500,000 — above the nisab — so the Zakat is 2.5%: Rs 37,500. Those are the figures loaded in the calculator above.
What about stock I bought on credit (udhaar)?+
Goods you hold for resale count at their selling value even when you bought them on credit — they are your stock now. What you still owe the supplier is a liability, so put it in the debts field; the two sides are both counted, honestly.
I have personal savings as well as the business. Do they combine?+
Yes — on your Zakat date, everything zakatable you own is counted together: personal cash, gold, silver and the business's net position. Use the main Zakat calculator to bring personal and business wealth into one calculation.
