DeenCalc

Methodology & sources

A calculator whose basis you cannot inspect is a calculator you should not trust. This page prints the rules, measures and sources behind every DeenCalc tool, so you can reproduce any result yourself.

The basis: Fiqh-e-Hanafi

Every calculation on this site — fitrana, fidya, Zakat, Zakat on gold and inheritance — follows Fiqh-e-Hanafi, and only Fiqh-e-Hanafi. Other schools of fiqh are not offered in this phase. Where a well-known difference exists (for example, Zakat on jewellery in use), the tool page states the Hanafi position plainly, so you always know which ruling a number rests on.

The measures for fitrana and fidya

The Hanafi measures: wheat is given as nisf sa' (half a sa'); barley, dates, raisins and cheese as a full sa'. Dar al-Ifta (Minhaj-ul-Quran), on its poster for Pakistan, weighs nisf sa' of wheat flour as 2 kg and the full sa' as 4 kg — the calculator uses and displays exactly those measures. One day's fidya equals one person's fitrana.

Zakat and its nisab

Zakat is 2.5% — one-fortieth — of net zakatable wealth that reaches the nisab and over which a lunar year has passed. The nisab of gold is 87.48 grams (7.5 tola; one tola = 11.664 g) and of silver 612.36 grams (52.5 tola). In rupees, Dar al-Ifta published the nisab as Rs 504,105 (on the silver measure) — the field is editable in the calculator because the figure moves with prices.

Hijri conversion

Dates are converted on the Umalqura calendar — the system built into your phone and computer (Intl islamic-umalqura). A local moon-sighting announcement can place the start of a particular month one day apart; for worship, follow your local announcement.

The inheritance rules

The inheritance calculator applies Hanafi faraid for the common heirs — spouse, sons, daughters, father, mother: the fixed shares (husband 1/2 or 1/4; wives 1/4 or 1/8; mother 1/3 or 1/6, and in the 'Umariyyah case 1/3 of the remainder after the spouse; daughters 1/2 or 2/3), residue to the residuary (sons taking double daughters), and 'awl and radd where they arise. For combinations outside that set, the calculator shows a referral note instead of inventing an answer.

Prices change — that is why the fields are open

The prices on this site come from one announcement (Ramadan 1447 / 2026). Staple, gold and silver prices move, so no price field anywhere on the site is locked: type the price that stands today and the calculation follows it. The rules and measures do not change; the numbers can, and we have kept the two separate.

Finally: this is not a fatwa

DeenCalc gives calculation guidance, not a fatwa. These pages cover the common cases; for anything unusual or disputed, consult a mufti or Dar al-Ifta before acting. For corrections or questions, contact us.
