Frequently asked questions

Which Hijri calendar does this converter use?+

The Umalqura calendar — the official calendar of Saudi Arabia and the one built into phones and operating systems (the Intl islamic-umalqura calendar). Dates here will match what your phone shows. In some countries the local moon-sighting announcement can differ by a day; religious observance follows your local announcement.

What is today's Hijri date?+

Open the converter above — the Gregorian side starts on today, and the matching Hijri date is shown immediately. For example, 18 February 2026 was 1 Ramadan 1447.

Why can a Hijri month have 29 or 30 days?+

Hijri months follow the moon: a month ends when the new crescent begins the next one, so months alternate between 29 and 30 days and a Hijri year is about 354 days — roughly 11 days shorter than a solar year. That is why Ramadan moves earlier through the seasons over the years.

Why does the converter say my Hijri date does not exist?+

Some months in some years have 29 days, so a 30th day does not exist for them. The converter checks the real month length for the year you entered and tells you instead of guessing a date.

Every calculation on this page follows Fiqh-e-Hanafi. The rates and the nisab are from the Dar al-Ifta (Minhaj-ul-Quran) poster for Pakistan, Ramadan 1447 Hijri / 2026; prices change, so every amount on this page is editable.

Date conversion is calendar information, not a fiqh question; this note covers the rest of the site.
